Honduras is a country filled with exceptional natural beauty. Roatan, is certainly one of the greatest Honduras attractions. Caribbean attractions are popular among travelers, and Roatan has much to offer. Popular activities around the island are sea kayaking, scuba diving, Horse back riding, Glass bottom boats and tours, fishing trips, canopy tours, and much more. Here is a list of Roatan Attraction along with a brief description of each.
Sea Kayaking
Sea Kayaks are available at Cannibal Café in West End, and at Tabyana Beach Resort at West Bay. Kayaks are available for rent by the hour or by the day. Sea Kayaking is a great opportunity to experience the Caribbean paradise that Roatan has to offer.
Scuba Diving
Roatan is surrounded by a variety of diving resorts in order to meet all your Diving needs. These resorts offer wreck diving, night diving, scuba lessons and certifications, all provided by trained multi lingual personnel and PADI diving, well-equipped companies. Aside from this, Roatan also offers independent diving operators that make it possible for your diving to be not only enjoyable but also very affordable. The superb diving that Roatan has to offer, make of this island a favorite Caribbean attraction.
Glass Bottom Boats and Tours
This is one of the most sought after Roatan Attractions. There are two different boats operating tours allowing you to explore and enjoy the underwater panorama.
1. The Underwater Paradise.
Located in Half Moon Bay. It departs across the street from the Coconut Tree Cabins. This is a unique boat where you will be seating approximately 7 feet under the water.
Hours of operation: 10:00 and 11:00 a.m and at 2:00 p.m.

2. Coral Reef Explorer.
Located in West Bay Beach. In this unique ride, passengers sit below the water line and enjoy an exceptional view of the reef. Tours last about one hour and are narrated by a multilingual guide who is also a local reef specialist.
Hours of Operation: 11:00 a.m. 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. daily except on Mondays.

Horse Back Riding
There are several options for great horseback riding in the area. Rancho Barrio Dorcas is the best option for this in West End area. The Rancho Dorcas offers both beach and jungle horseback riding tours, and visits to the mangroves and ironshore. In addition, a night tour is scheduled once a month where you will enjoy the full moon while riding your horse. Other options available for horse back riding are: Gumbalimba Park in West Bay Beach, and Keifito's Plantation Retreat, located half way between West End and West Bay. These locations offer riding on the beach and trails up into the mountains behind the communities.
Fishing Trips
Fishing trips are available from Millers Fish Charters, located in West End. They offer trolling and bottom fishing. You can find Barracuda and tuna all year round, and Wahoo and Dorado from September to February. Charters are available from 2 hours to full day for a price of approximately $60.00/hour. Reserve in advance.
Island Tours
Tours around the Island are readily available. Roatan is surrounded by many different communities. A tour offered by Averyl's Adventures, located at Libreria Casi Todo, can take you to many of these communities, including the Garifuna Village of Punta Gorda. Another option available is the Bay Island Expeditions. This one offers an island tour that includes a visit to the Garifuna communities, Roatan's Iguana Farm, and a boat ride through the mangroves in the Oakridge area.
Motorcycle and Scooter Rentals
If taking an island tour doesn’t interest you, then you also have the ability to create you own tour. Motorcycles and scooters are available for rent in Roatan. These are a great way to get around all the wonderful Roatan attractions. By being director of your own tour, you have the opportunity to explore this Caribbean paradise allowing you to discover many of the "hidden" secret places of the island. There is a paved road that leads from West End to Oakridge, and it offers lovely views of both sides of the island. For rentals, Captain Van's Rentals located in West End village at Half Moon Bay, offers top name brands like Yamaha, Honda dual sport motorcycles, and Schwinn mountain bikes. Prices are very reasonable, and there are great savings on long term rentals. This place has a great reputation for their well maintained equipment, which is likely the reason why they have been in business for 7 years.
Canopy Tours
For the adventurous visitor, Canopy tours are available in Roatan. This adrenalin pumping activity is a very popular Caribbean attraction. Currently, there are two Canopy Tour operators in the West Bay area offering tours at a price of $35.00 US per person, plus the one in French Harbour. This type of adventure allows participants to get a unique view of life in the canopy of the dense tropical forest. The first canopy tour operator is actually part of the Gumbalimba Nature Park, and is approximately two Km. long; the other, known as the South Shore Canopy is almost 3 km. long. Experienced guides and well maintained equipment provide a safe and fun environment.
Gumbalimba Nature Park
This narture park is located in West Bay. Filled with natural beauty, this park gives you a taste of the Caribbean paradise. There is a wide variety of activities available in the park, one of them being The Canopy Tour mentioned above. There is also a 300 ft, hanging bridge over a lagoon; beach activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, and a variety of boating options, such as wave runners, banana skiing, etc. Horseback riding is another of the multiple activities available at the park. Finally, the highlight of the park is an broad bird collection that includes two different species of Macaws native to Honduras as well as several different species of parrots.
Roatan Butterfly Garden
This is a unique Caribbean attraction located at the entrance to West End. This tropical butterfly garden exhibits an array of butterflies native to Honduras and the Bay Islands. Outside the garden, there are several tropical fruit trees such as cashew, hog plum, breadfruit, etc. In addition, you can find an exhibit of Honduras tropical birds. Open daily from 9 to 5 (except Saturday). Entry fee is $5.00 US per person, and this includes an information brochure that allows you to do a self guided tour. There is also a nice souvenir shop offering a variety of butterfly related souvenirs. The Butterfly Garden has become one of the most popular attractions at West End.
